What Are The Steps Involved In Profile Cutting?

The process of profile cutting involves the following steps:

Decide on the shape you want to cut and mark it out on the metal sheet

The first thing that needs to be done is to mark out the shape that is to be cut.

Clamp the sheet in place on the workbench

Now that the shape has been marked out, it is time to clamp the sheet in place on the workbench. This will ensure that it does not move during the cutting process.

Set the plasma cutter to the desired cutting thickness

The next step is to set the plasma cutter according to the thickness of the metal that is to be cut.

Adjust the cutting angle and speed

Adjustment of the cutting angle and speed is necessary to ensure that the cutter cuts cleanly and does not distort the metal.

Hold the cutter against the marked line and activate the plasma jet

Now the person operating the machine needs to hold the cutter against the marked line and activate the plasma jet. The jet has to be pressed against the metal for the entire cut to ensure a clean finish.

Move the cutter along the line, maintaining a consistent distance from the edge of the metal

The cutter should be moved along the line in a smooth, even motion. This will ensure that the cut is straight and does not have any burs or sharp edges.

Release the trigger when you reach the end of the cutline

After reaching the end of the cut line, the trigger is released which allows the cutter to move away from the metal.

Remove the cut piece from the sheet

The last step is to remove the cut piece from the sheet. This can be done by using a chisel and hammer or a pair of pliers.

      FAQ's

The cost of profile cutting will vary depending on the size and complexity of the shape that is being cut. Generally, it is a relatively affordable process.

While it is possible to do profile cutting yourself, it is generally recommended that you hire a professional to do the job. This is because it requires specialist equipment and a high level of skill to produce accurate results.

Profile cutting can be used with a variety of metals, including steel, aluminum, and brass. However, it is not suitable for use with very thick metal sheets.

We can cut metal up to a thickness of 1 inch with our profile cutting service. If you need to cut metal that is thicker than this, we can recommend a suitable alternative method.
